A Farleigh Hospice supporter has won the Local Hospice Lottery maximum rollover prize of £25,000!

Congratulation to the lucky winner of the 16 August draw: David! He has played the Local Hospice Lottery for 10 years, a commitment which has paid off, as his win was the maximum amount possible to win on a weekly rollover draw. David and his wife visited Farleigh Hospice on Friday 27 August for the official cheque handover, and took part in a photo shoot in Farleigh’s memory garden.

Commenting on his good fortune, David said: “It was such a surprise! I like to support local charities and I hope that my small contribution helps the bigger picture, helping Farleigh Hospice to support people that are in greater need than myself. In terms of what we plan to do with the money, we have decided that we will give some money to Farleigh Hospice and will also give some to the other charities I support; Muscular Dystrophy UK, Diabetes UK and the Royal British Legion. The money will also go towards some home improvements, in particular, adapting part of our garden to make it more easily accessible for my wife’s wheelchair.”

Pauline Harvey-Jones, commercial director at Farleigh Hospice said: “We are thrilled for David and his wife and wish them many congratulations. What a wonderful piece of news that must have been, especially after the difficult 18 months we’ve all had! We are so grateful to David for playing in support of Farleigh for the last 10 years. We really appreciate the support we receive from people playing the Local Hospice Lottery in aid of Farleigh Hospice. The money we receive provides vital funding that goes towards our running costs, providing a regular stream of income which makes it possible for us to plan and develop our services for the future.”

Farleigh Hospice has been providing care and support for anyone affected by a life-limiting illness or bereavement for almost forty years. The hospice relies on the support and goodwill of the local community to help raise over £6million every year, that’s £21,271 every day that is needed to continue to support the mid-Essex community in their time of greatest need.

A great way to help fundraise is by playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Farleigh Hospice. Farleigh is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by the Local Hospice Lottery, which donates between 50% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of us to the hospice. It only costs £1 per week to play and there are some substantial cash prizes to be won – rollover prizes can be as high as £25,000!

The more people that play, the more money is raised - visit the Farleigh Hospice website for details on how to sign up here
