Our Volunteer Stories

We could not run Farleigh Hospice, our stores and our events without the support of our fantastic volunteers. Here they tell us their stories.

Hugh - Kitchen Volunteer in the Courtyard Café

"I enjoy the atmosphere and it’s good to feel a part, however small, of an organisation like this…and I get fed!"

Sue - Retail Volunteer

"My Mum had cancer and passed away eight years ago. She received such good care from the nurses that came in to see her, that it left me feeling that I wanted to give something back to the community - so I decided to support Farleigh Hospice."

Jody - Inpatient Unit Volunteer

"I get a feeling of satisfaction that I’m helping the patients and I’m also supporting the staff. Yes, there are some sad moments working in the IPU, but it is also rewarding and it’s worth it. I really love it."

Charlie - Retail Volunteer

"If somebody is looking for something to do or just feeling a bit low in themselves, I would definitely tell them to become a volunteer. It gives you a sense of purpose and helps to build up your confidence and self-esteem."
