Enter the Farleigh Calendar Photography Competition

We are inviting our supporters to enter the Farleigh Hospice Calendar Photography Competition.

Each year Farleigh Hospice produces a beautiful calendar that showcases 13 images taken by our supporters. The calendars are sold in our shops and via our Christmas catalogue. Last year we sold over 900 calendars which raised more than £3,000 for Farleigh Hospice.

You can enter up to 10 images that perfectly encapsulate the beauty of Essex for a chance to be included in our 2025 calendar.

The closing date is 23.59 on Sunday 12 May 2024.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced photographer or simply enjoy taking a shot or two on your phone, all entries are welcome.

We can crop your images but you may like to bear in mind the calendar image size is 170mm (6.69 inches) wide x 117mm (4.60 inches) high when selecting your entries.

We will be looking for a range of photos to illustrate a year in Essex.

• Spring, summer, autumn, winter
• Nature, flora and fauna
• Rivers and coast
• Woodlands and countryside

Photos can be taken anywhere and of anything you like, so long as it lies within the borders of Essex. Below are the 2023 winners.

How to enter

Please submit your entries to competitions@farleighhospice.org

Please include the following information with your entry:

• Your full name
• Company name (if a professional photographer)
• Telephone number
• The photo filename and information on where the image was taken and what it shows
• Whether you are an amateur, professional or semi-professional photographer
• Written consent from any persons photographed
• Where you heard about the competition
• Please enter high resolution JPEG photos (minimum 300dpi) with a maximum file size of 10mb per image. You can submit images across several emails if your email provider limits attachment size.

Competition rules:

All entries must be submitted by 23:59 on Sunday 12 May 2024. There is no fee for entering.

Entrants can submit up to 10 photographs.

Photographs must be taken in Essex.

Any person may enter the competition, but entries must be digital JPEG images and submitted individually via email. We cannot accept prints or other digital formats.

Copyright will remain with the photographer. All photographs entered must be free of any third-party restrictions regarding their use and publication.

Photos submitted must have been taken by the person submitting the photos and they must be the copyright holder.

Photos must not have any watermark or copyright overlaying the image.

Any persons photographed must have provided written consent for the use of their image by Farleigh Hospice

Format:

Images must have been taken at a sufficiently high resolution and should be submitted as JPEGs at 300dpi with no interpolation applied. No tiffs, bitmap, raw images or prints will be accepted.

We will accept portrait and square submissions for the front cover.

All photos must be in landscape orientation for inclusion inside the calendar.

Adjusting your image:

The faithful representation of what was captured at the time of the shot being taken must be maintained.

Please ensure your images are not over saturated and faithfully represent the subject matter. We do not accept images that have had filters applied.

Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work (removing dust spots), levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work.

Sharpening and minimal cropping is allowed.

Compositing, sandwich shots and double exposures are not permitted.

Adding or removing distractions, items, people etc into/from the image is not allowed. Pictures that have been digitally manipulated in breach of these rules are not eligible.

How we will use the winning images:

No prize or fee will be payable to anyone whose photos are used, or persons photographed, however the 13 photographers of the winning images will each receive a copy of the 2025 calendar featuring their image.

Winning photographs will be chosen by a panel of Farleigh Hospice employees and independent judges, and will be picked based on quality, clarity, and suitability for use

Photos to be included in the calendar will be chosen by in late May, and winners will be announced on World Photography Day - Monday 19 Aug 2024 - on the Farleigh Hospice Facebook page and website

By submitting photographs, you consent to their unlimited use by Farleigh Hospice in any communications or publications.

Please note that by submitting an entry, you are giving us permission to use the images in our publications, advertising, and other media activities. You also give us permission to share your image with third party media in relation to the competition. This includes, but is not limited to: press, broadcast media, online platforms, and visual media such as leaflets and brochures.
