Welcome to the Spring issue of The Lantern

In this edition, we are sharing exciting news about our plans for a community centre in Maldon (pages 6-7) where local patients will be able to access many of our services instead of travelling to our hospice building in Chelmsford.

On pages 18-19, a Registered Nurse Plus describes a typical day working with our hospice at home team and on page 21, as part of our Love Farleigh appeal, Barry tells us how Farleigh’s support and advice enabled him to care for his wife, Marina, at home.

You can also read an update from our bereavement team (page 5) and the results and recommendations from a recent survey into what local people want and need during palliative illness and end of life (pages 22-23).

Our popular Walk for Life returns on 14 May (page 17) and turn to pages 8-9 for two exciting new events to put in your diary: Midsummer Mudness on 22 June and Splash Out on 9 July.

If you are looking for some top tips on fundraising, Colin and Sue Herbert tell us how they have raised over £20,000 for Farleigh on pages 14-15.

Some of you may already know that I have decided to retire from my position as Chief Executive from early summer to enjoy more time with my family. My colleagues have put together a few of the many highlights of my past ten years at Farleigh on pages 10-11, which have brought back so many happy memories of this charity, the amazing team that work here, our fantastic volunteers and you, our wonderful supporters. It is because you care, that Farleigh can and I know that this hospice will enjoy a bright future with your continued support - thank you.

Alison Stevens, Chief Executive
