As a Volunteer Care Assistant on our Inpatient Unit (IPU) you'll be part of the nursing team assisting with simple nursing duties and ensuring patients and their relatives feel at home at Farleigh Hospice.

What you'll do
  • Assist the nursing team with patient care, as directed, and in conjunction with the Guidelines for Care Assistants
  • Attend patient reports/consult nursing team to familiarise yourself with patients’ background and anticipated needs
  • Assist with varying patient needs, as appropriate.  Tasks may include personal hygiene and toilet needs, washing and dressing, feeding and drinking (after appropriate training)
  • Make beds
  • Clean specific areas
  • Sit with a patient, if required. 
  • Check the linen cupboard in each room, as directed, re-stocking when necessary (in the absence of a Host or hostess)
  • Prepare refreshments for patients and their families
  • Clear and replace used water jugs and tumblers
  • Check with nursing staff if it is convenient for visitors to see patients

What days and times are currently available?
  • Wednesdays from 8am-1pm 
  • Ad-hoc shift cover throughout the week and on weekends from 8am-1pm
