Raising money in memory is a beautiful and meaningful way to celebrate the life of a loved one. Kathy Morris and her family raised nearly £10,000 for Farleigh in memory of Kathy’s mum, Sue, who passed away in October 2017. This is their story…

“When we were told Mum’s illness was terminal, we had frank conversations about her wishes. One of those was to be at home with her family until the end. We were already in touch with Farleigh and knew they could help us. For the last three weeks of Mum’s life, the Hospice at Home nurses came into our home, providing support for both my Mum and the family.

After Mum’s funeral I needed something to focus on, a way to keep Mum’s memory alive. We decided to hold a dinner dance in her memory at The Lion Inn in Boreham, with all the proceeds going to Farleigh.

We offered a three course meal and prosecco. I booked everything from a photo booth, casino tables, to a compere, disco, sax player and a magician. Friends and family all rallied around to secure some fantastic raffle and auction prizes.

To our amazement we sold 147 tickets at £65 each. On the night we raised £4,470, plus ticket sales, a raffle at work, as well as donations to our JustGiving page. In total, we raised £9,439.

I would like to thank everyone who supported the event. It was a great evening, and a wonderful tribute to Mum.”
