Owen and Nina's Story

Owen was diagnosed with incurable cancer just four weeks before his marriage to Nina. Within two months, his health had deteriorated as the cancer quickly spread and he was referred to Farleigh Hospice for palliative care.

Owen initially had nurses care for him at home but when the pain became too much, he was admitted to Farleigh’s Inpatient Unit where he received 24-hour specialist care.

The team were determined to make him comfortable and give him dignity. His family were able to spend every moment of every day with him, he was given a choice of food that he liked and could eat, and also received complementary therapy to help ease his pain.

Nina said, “Life would have been very lonely and isolating without Farleigh. If Owen had gone into hospital, I know he would have hated it. Instead, he was calm and looked after well and was surrounded by the people who loved him most when he passed away, which means so much.”

Can you help us to continue to be there for people like Owen by donating to our Forget-me-not Appeal?

There are hundreds of people in our community, who just like Owen, need our specialist care and compassion in the last few months of their life. Any donation you can make to our Forget-me-not appeal will help us to continue to be there for the people who need us.

As part of our appeal, you can leave your own special dedication in memory of a loved one when making your donation. This will be handwritten on a postcard and displayed on a beautiful heart at our remembrance service and then in our hospice building in Chelmsford.
