We are seeking to recruit welcoming, friendly and caring individuals to volunteer to host our Bereavement Help Point meetings. This new and exciting initiative will be held in a variety of local community venues across the mid-Essex area including Chelmsford, Maldon, Witham and Braintree. As a host, you will meet and greet; introduce attendees to each other; offer basic support and signpost to other Farleigh bereavement services and relevant organisations.


What you'll do
  • Facilitating, Co-facilitating and supporting in bereavement groups as requested by the Family Support & Bereavement Manager/Team Leader/Counsellor/Office Co-ordinator
  • Manage your group work commitments and any issues arising from the groups in liaison with the Family Support & Bereavement Manager/Team Leader/Counsellor/Office Co-ordinator
  • Attend supervision/feedback sessions (in a small group) with the Family Support & Bereavement Manager/Team Leader/Counsellor as agreed
  • Attend annual review/appraisal sessions with the Family Support & Bereavement Manager/Team Leader/Counsellor (this will be a 1:1 session) as agreed
  • Attend Bereavement Service training sessions (organised by the Family Support & Bereavement Manager/Team Leader/Counsellor) approximately 3 days per year
  • Complete ‘contact sheets’ for statistical purposes
  • Attend Remembrance Services, ideally minimum of 1 per year

Minimum Requirements
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Adhere to data protection policies and procedures.
  • Complete the volunteer mandatory competency workbook within the first year of appointment
  • Participate in mandatory training and attend any courses that may be relevant
  • Attend volunteer meetings and sessions whenever possible
  • Work to Farleigh Hospice values (we are caring, respectful, dedicated and innovative)
  • Ability to empathise and work with bereavement issues in a group setting

Extra Information
  • We will provide you with training. This will take place on Friday 19th July between 9.30am and 4.30pm at Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford (other dates later in the year, please ask for details). The role requires you to attend supervision as agreed along with three training days per year to support you in your personal development and managing the role.
