Support for Families and Carers

Our Family Support Service offers practical and emotional support to patients, families and carers.


The Family Support Service work out in the community, visiting people in their own homes, as well as in our Farleigh Hospice building in Chelmsford and within our Inpatient Unit.

The support they offer is based on your individual needs and can include:

  • Information about life-limiting illnesses and the impact on you and your family
  • Counselling
  • Emotional support
  • Advocacy and support with practical issues including housing, funeral planning, planning for future care
  • Signposting to financial and welfare advice
  • Support over the phone, via video or in person
  • Support on a one-to-one basis, as a couple, family or in a group session
  • Specialist self-management courses for carers and family members
  • Opportunities to access peer support with people facing similar situations
