Charlotte Wallis, the ‘Lottie’ in Lottie & Jake’s Scrumptious Cakes in Maldon, stepped into her mother’s shoes recently by baking and selling some delicious treats in aid of Farleigh Hospice.

Lottie & Jakes Scrumptious Cakes specialise in bespoke celebration cakes and cupcakes. Owner Emma Wallis’s 12-year old daughter, Charlotte, had the enterprising idea of selling her own Treat Boxes containing a selection of homemade, beautifully decorated cakes and biscuits to cheer people up during lockdown 3.0.

Rather than utilise the stock from her mum’s bakery, she made all of the yummy treats herself and sold them over a two-week period, raising over £80 for the hospice. The sweet treats were said to have to have “rivalled her mother’s creations” by those that bought them!

Emma Wallis, owner of Lottie and Jake’s Scrumptious Cakes said: “Farleigh provides phenomenal support for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The pandemic has made fundraising difficult for them which is why Charlotte was keen to do something to help. She needed to keep busy when this lockdown first began, and so came up with the idea of creating the treat boxes as a way to raise money.

“I’m incredibly proud of her, not only is she a great baker (although she’s not so keen on the washing up!), she’s always looking for ways to help others which is an admirable quality. Charlotte has plans to raise even more money for Farleigh by hosting a bake sale in our garden when the pandemic restrictions are lifted.”

Debbie de Boltz, Fundraising Manager at Farleigh Hospice said: “We really appreciate Charlotte’s fundraising efforts. Her mum is a regular supporter of the hospice and it looks like Charlotte is taking after her, not only with the baking, but with her enthusiasm for fundraising too! We look forward to seeing what she creates for her garden bake sale when it can take place.”

Easter Teatime Treats workshop

Emma Wallis will be hosting a virtual Easter Teatime Treats workshop in aid of Farleigh Hospice on the 30th March at 2pm. The second of Farleigh’s spring craft event series, this cake decoration tutorial will teach you how to make fun Easter characters such as cute chicks and colourful Easter eggs out of fondant icing that can be used to decorate one large cake or individual cupcakes.
