Packaging leader Smurfit Kappa has announced it will be fundraising for Farleigh Hospice throughout 2022/23.

Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford has selected Farleigh as its charity of the year for 2022/23. The business has already kick-started its fundraising activities with a donation of £1,000, raised through a campaign which saw the business donate £30 for every member of staff that received both their Covid vaccinations.

Vic Marland, General Manager at Smurfit Kappa, said “Farleigh Hospice is close to many of our hearts at Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford. They’ve always supported our team when they’ve needed them most and we’re delighted to have the chance to repay just some of that kindness and support their upcoming celebrations.

“The hospice relies on charitable funding and contributions from the local community and, like many across the charity sector, they have struggled during the pandemic as donations went down whilst the need for their services increased.

“We’re passionate about supporting local charities and good causes, and can’t think of a better way to say thank you to Farleigh Hospice for the work they do and the help they’ve offered the wider Smurfit Kappa family, than to support their 40th anniversary as part of our Wellbeing and Engagement Committee Plant and Community Projects initiative 2022 – 2023.”

Smurfit Kappa, a FTSE 100 company, is one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging solutions in the world, with approximately 48,000 employees in over 350 production sites across 36 countries and with revenue of €10.1 billion in 2021. They are located in 23 countries in Europe, and 13 in the Americas.

Michelle Martin, Corporate Fundraiser at Farleigh Hospice, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to Smurfit Kappa and all their staff for selecting Farleigh Hospice as their charity of the year. As Farleigh celebrates its 40th
birthday, we are looking forward to working in partnership with Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford and helping them fundraise in aid of the hospice. Every penny they raise will help us secure the future of our care for the next 40 years and beyond.”
