Farleigh Hospice is deeply saddened to hear that Councillor John Galley, the Mayor of Chelmsford, has died.

Councillor Galley was an enthusiastic ambassador for the city of Chelmsford and his death is a great loss to the local community.

As one of his chosen Charities of the Year, we are very grateful to Councillor Galley for his incredibly generous support for Farleigh. I was delighted to welcome him on a tour of our hospice building back in June and he joined us as a special guest for our 40th Birthday Celebration and Thanksgiving Service at Chelmsford Cathedral.

His next event for Farleigh – Friday’s Autumn Quiz at Chelmer Valley High School – will be held in his honour with a one-minute silence as a tribute to him.

On behalf of Farleigh Hospice, I send my deepest condolences to his wife, Mayoress Jackie Galley; the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sue Dobson; his family; friends and colleagues.
