A community domiciliary care provider is literally ‘growing’ its £50 start-up money to fundraise for the Farleigh Hospice £50 Challenge.

The CiviCare East team are growing sunflowers to sell at the Broomfield Village fete on Sunday 11 July to raise money for the local hospice. They have also gained support from local bakery, Boos Bakery, who is donating £2 from every sale of its bespoke fudge when customers use the code ‘FARLEIGH50’ when ordering. Jackie Casey supported the last Tails and Trails in May raising £95.00 and has arranged another for the challenge, encouraging all the carers who can get a dog for the day to repeat the walk in July.

CiviCare won the ‘best team spirit award’ for its fundraising efforts in the 2017 £50 Challenge and plans to retain the title for 2021 with its creative approach. The company aims to run more events throughout the duration of the £50 Challenge campaign such as a sweepstake for Euro 2021 and a staff fun day (COVID-19 permitting).

Libby Casey-Longshank, learning and development manager at CiviCare East said: “We are very supportive of Farleigh Hospice’s mission to care for and support anyone in the community affected by life-limiting illness or bereavement. When considering a local charity to support, we consulted our staff and the majority of them wanted to help Farleigh. We have supported them for many years now and have fundraised in a variety of ways such as holding a Shrove Tuesday pancake design competition, Easter egg raffles, charging people to use the photocopier, sponsored dog walks, cash for clothes, electronics sales and various sweepstakes. I even held a sweepstake at my wedding on what the first dance would be to raise money for Farleigh!”

CiviCare East staff also donate monthly from their wages to the hospice. The company has a permanent just giving page in aid of Farleigh Hospice which is there to take donations at any time. The team also recently participated in Farleigh’s Tails and Trails event.

Michelle Martin, Corporate Fundraiser at Farleigh Hospice said: “We are so appreciative of the support that CiviCare has given us over the years. They are always so creative with their approach to fundraising. They really go the extra mile. This year Libby has been nurturing the sunflowers they plan to sell off in July, keeping them in her house to protect them from the cold and windy spring weather that we had. All money raised from this year’s £50 Challenge will go towards supporting the amazing work of our nurses, helping them continue to care for people with a life-limiting illness across mid Essex and offering vital support to patients and their families free of charge.”
