Farleigh Hospice Position Statement – Assisted Dying
Farleigh Hospice Position Statement – Assisted Dying
Statement on Recent Parliamentary Developments on Assisted Dying – July 2025
The recent decision by the House of Commons to pass the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill marks a pivotal moment in the national conversation around assisted dying. As the bill progresses to the House of Lords for further scrutiny, we recognise that this is a deeply personal and emotive topic. For some, these developments may bring reassurance; for others, they may provoke anxiety, concern, or uncertainty.
At Farleigh Hospice, we do not take a position either for or against assisted dying. Our role is not to advocate for or against changes in the law, but to ensure that, regardless of the legal framework, our patients and their families continue to receive the highest quality palliative and end of life care—care that is compassionate, dignified, and tailored to individual needs and wishes.
We are here for everyone in our community, whatever their beliefs, background, or personal views. We offer specialist care and support, a listening ear, and emotional support to help people navigate the complexities and challenges of life-limiting illness and end of life.
We also recognise that national developments may prompt local concern or questions about what these changes could mean for individuals and families in mid Essex. We want to reassure our community that we are committed to open dialogue and transparency. Over the coming months, we will be engaging in a wider conversation with our local community to better understand your views, respond to your concerns, and ensure that our services continue to meet your needs with compassion and integrity.
This is a time for compassion, openness, and mutual care—and we remain here for you, every step of the way.
If you are feeling uncertain, anxious, or simply wish to talk, please reach out. Our team is here for you. You can contact us at yourfeedback@farleighhospice.org or by phone on 01245 455478.
