Volunteers are the backbone of Farleigh Hospice and every role makes a huge difference to the lives of people living with a life-limiting illness or bereavement.

We sat down with Tim Nicholls, who has been volunteering with us for just over a year.

“I started volunteering for Farleigh back in 2018 as a volunteer HR assistant, a couple of days a week. I support the HR team with volunteer recruitment for all of our retail and support services roles including catering, reception, and fundraising. I help process the applications, update our database, carry out the necessary checks and provide advice and information to both the volunteers and the services. My background is within purchasing and supplies for the automotive industry, so I felt I had transferable skills."

“I decided to look into becoming a volunteer as I took early retirement and needed to keep my mind and soul busy! I chose to volunteer for Farleigh as I wanted to give something back - I lost my wife through cancer six years ago and Farleigh supported her through end of life care and supported me too.

“I really enjoy working in the team, we are a very busy department with lots of challenges and different projects to work on."
