The Inpatient Unit at Farleigh is where we offer short-term care for patients requiring symptom control, respite, rehabilitation, or end of life care. Our expert team of nurses and doctors work 24 hours a day and are supported by an amazing team of volunteers.

Sandra Dowsett has been a Volunteer Hostess for 11 years.

“I volunteer every Tuesday morning, handing out menus, taking food orders, changing water, serving lunches and restocking the lockers with towels and toiletries. I feel I am able to help the patients and support the nurses by doing all the little jobs, so they can focus on the day-to-day care. It’s a lovely atmosphere, you get to chat to the relatives and the patients. You always feel included and part of the team.”

Viv Talbot, another valued IPU volunteer said “I am a Qualified Nurse and after I retired I wanted to give something back, there is only so much housework you can do! I have been a Volunteer Nurse Helper for two and half years, I help the Health Care Assistants with basic nursing care, as well as covering for the hostesses. I help out every Tuesday morning, assisting with breakfast, helping patients to wash, making beds and supporting relatives and patients. It’s a privilege to be there during someone’s last few days and offering relatives a shoulder to cry on.”
