Farleigh Hospice have been operating a lottery since 1996, initially to support the charity’s caring work in mid Essex. However, in 2008 the lottery expanded and was renamed ‘Local Hospice Lottery’, enabling more hospices to benefit whilst raising extra funds for Farleigh Hospice.

Last year Local Hospice Lottery contributed £1.17 million to Farleigh Hospice, its largest ever amount to the charity and enough to fund one in every four patients at Farleigh Hospice.

In addition to its local impact, a further six hospices have joined Local Hospice Lottery since April last year, bringing the total number of hospices working in partnership to 22.

This collaborative method of working was recognised with a national award, with Local Hospice Lottery Ltd winning ‘Lottery Operator of the Year’ at the 2018 Lotteries Council Awards. With over 300 organisations from large charities, small societies and major football clubs all being members of the Lotteries Council, the award is a real tribute to the hard work of the whole team.
