Farleigh in Maldon

Tuesday 22nd November 2016

After 21 years at Bentalls Complex, our Day Services in Maldon will be moving to a new location.

The premises in Heybridge has multiple problems including a leaking roof, issues with the water supply and unstable flooring which require substantial investment. The centre is not large enough for the growth in services that we would like to offer, and we are looking for new, larger premises so we can continue to meet the local community’s palliative and bereavement care needs.

We have been looking for an alternative building in the Maldon area prior to closing the current building, but we have so far been unable to find a suitable location. Day Services will be closing on Thursday 15th December, and we will continue to offer our patients and carers the support they need, and they will be given a number of options on what this support will be until a new building opens. We have been talking to patients, staff and volunteers and have been inundated with support and understanding.

We hope the impact on individuals will be minimised by the increased support they will receive from other hospice teams. Several patients have already agreed to meet as social groups in various locations and homes and we’re working hard to find suitable venues for other groups. We are committed to finding a local building so that we can continue and expand our work in the Maldon area. Patients, staff, volunteers and supporters are celebrating the very special times shared in our current hospice building during their Christmas events. We will keep local people and supporters up to date with regular briefings on our website and in the press.
