We sincerely hope that you are looking forward to the Walk for Life this Sunday, 13th May. We just wanted to send you this quick email to update you about the day. The event will still be taking place as planned on Sunday, due to the recent bad weather we have had to make some alterations to the planned length of the route but please follow all of the guidelines that are detailed in your participant information letter. For any participants who are planning to travel straight to Papermill Lock, please be aware that there will be very limited car parking available, due to the recent weather conditions. Where possible please make appropriate travel arrangements.

Fundraising

A great way of getting sponsorship is by setting up a Just Giving Sponsorship page and sending the link to friends, family and work colleagues.  The pages are quick and easy to set up and have the advantage of collecting the money instantly - so no need to spend months after the event chasing missing sponsorship. It automatically reclaims gift aid and you can easily track your progress.  You can create your own online diary add pictures and sponsors can leave messages of support.  Click on the link below to create your page.

You can also raise money for the walk in a number of other ways, by holding events, selling through ebay for us or approaching companies where you might have contacts.

So what happens now?

All walkers should have now received their personalised sponsorship pack with more information to get you started and your personalised sponsorship forms.  If these do not come, or if you need more forms, please ring: 01245 457408.  At the beginning of May walkers will be sent their walker number, start destination and time, along with full details for the day. If you have any other questions please ring the events team on 01245 457408.

Support for the day

Whether you are taking part in the 10.5km or 22km walk you should ensure that you have a good general level of fitness and that you bring the appropriate gear for the prevailing conditions on the day.

There will be full support on the day with regular water stops and first aid backup but you should still come prepared.  If you have doubts about your fitness you should contact your doctor for advice.  Full details will be sent nearer the time but in general you should:

-  Be prepared for all weather conditions and please wear suitable walking shoes or boots. 
-  Leave jewellery at home, especially rings, as fingers could swell up.
-  Don’t wear contact lenses if you have any allergies as your eyes may become swollen.
-  Although there are water stops along the walk also bring your own water to stay hydrated.
-  Don’t forget to bring money for food should you wish to buy any on the day.
-  Please remember to bring your walking number and safety pins with you as these will be required for registration and throughout the walk.
