Open Gardens

Once again members of the local community open their gardens to raise funds for Farleigh Hospice.  Enjoy a day out and visit these beautiful gardens of varying sizes and styles around mid Essex .

Sunday 23rd May

Sandon, Butts Green and Howe Green 11am-4pm

At least 15 gardens of various styles.  Attractions include lunches, refreshments, craft and plant stalls.  Free taxi around the gardens. 
Finishing with a performance on the village green at 3pm by the Royal British Legion Youth Band, who have appeared before Her Majesty the Queen - current supreme National Champions.
Tickets £5 available from Meacock & Jones, Eves Corner and Farleigh Hospice.

Sunday 6th June

Mill End, Bradwell-on-Sea 10am-6pm

Up to seven widely differing gardens located within easy walking distance of each other.  They vary from the very small and beautifully designed to traditional cottage style, large and wildlife-friendly, with flower, shrub and vegetable beds, woods and ponds – in fact something for everyone.
Refreshments, plant sales, toilets and disabled access are all available.
Admission £3 on the day.

Sunday 13th June

Danbury and Little Baddow 11am-5pm

The Annual Open Gardens has expanded to some gardens in Little Baddow.  At least 19 gardens of various styles and sizes will be open.  Added attractions include  classic cars, plants, book and craft stalls, beer and wine tent in one of the gardens plus lunches with beer and wine served in Danbury Village Hall.  Cream teas and cakes and a free taxi running circular routes.
Admission by programme £5 (under 16’s free) available from Farleigh Hospice, Meacock & Jones, Eves Corner and all participating gardens on the day.

Leave your car in the car park and take the free Taxibus which goes round the route continuously

Fridays only in May, June and September 11am-4pm

Wickham Place Farm, Station Road, Wickham Bishops, CM8 3JB 

This garden is renowned for the huge wisteria covering an entire wall of over 250ft and is at its best in May.  The 2 acre walled garden with huge climbers, roses and more wisteria cascade into wide borders bursting with shrubs, perennials and bulbs.
A further 12 acres of woodland, part planted with rabbit resistant plants can be seen.  Amble through carpets of bulbs, ferns and cyclamen and view the intricate box knot garden and large wildlife pond.  Good selection of unusual plants for sale.  Teas, cold drinks and cakes served all day.
Admission £3.50 or £6 per person inclusive of tea and cake. 
Children free.

Sunday 13th June

Witham
11am-6pm.  Some gardens 2pm-6pm

Another chance to visit and wander around at leisure 14 of the delightful hidden gardens of Witham and its environs. Plants for sale and refreshments available including ploughman’s lunches, a running buffet and wonderful cakes, teas/coffees at various times through the day.

Sunday 11th July

'Riffhams', Graces Lane, Danbury, CM3 4AX.  2pm - 5pm

By kind permission of Mr Michael Hindmarch, the High Sheriff of Essex and Mrs Susan Hindmarch.

Don't miss the opportunity to view this beautiful listed garden designed by Humphrey Repton.

Refreshments, Musical Entertainment, Stalls and Attractions.

As well as visiting gardens in your area why not consider opening your garden to the public?  If you are proud of your garden, holding an open day can give you the opportunity to share your love of gardening with others as well as help raise funds for Farleigh Hospice.  It can be as small or large as you wish.  Perhaps you might consider linking with others in your area, creating a day out for visitors.
