Support Groups

There are a number of fundraising and support groups who have come together to help Farleigh Hospice by organising events to raise funds.  Some of the groups are run along formal lines, some informally.  Between them they raise in the region of £50,000 per year and represent Farleigh Hospice wherever they go.

Annual Quiz - Chris Hibbitt and Jackie Thompson produce a very popular quiz sheet every year, which can be mailed out to those who are interested. Contact fundraising from August onwards on 01245 457408.

The Craft Circle for Maldon District. They produce high quality hand made craft items.They attend existing events and organise their own markets and coffee mornings. The group is headed up by Maureen Head.

The Craft Group for Chelmsford, Witham and Braintree also produce many different craft items. They also organise fundraising events such as quiz nights, dances, craft fairs and walks. This is one of the largest groups meeting in three different areas.  The group meets monthly to discuss events. Sheila Gunson is the Craft Group leader.

The Danbury Support Group is headed by Margaret Axon. The group are looking for new active members.  They organise an extremely successful annual Open Gardens event.

Foreign Coins - Farleigh Hospice has an amazing foreign coin exchange system ably run by Howard Parris and friends.  Unwanted foreign coins are handed in to the hospice and are made into packs and sold to the public at the going exchange rate. Howard will take most currencies and can be contacted via the main hospice number of 01245 457300.

The Friends of Farleigh Hospice organise diverse events ranging from Bridge Luncheons to Flower Arranging Evenings.  They also sell home made jams and chutneys and they have a well established committee. They have a membership scheme boasting over 400 members.  The Friends of Farleigh Hospice group is chaired by Julie Renvoize.

The Great Baddow Support Group organises four lunches a year, which are very well attended.  They also organise many other types of events including dances and quiz nights.

Jewellery - Audrey Harrison produces beautiful hand-made necklaces, bracelets and earrings as well as decorated garden planters. If anyone is interested in having Audrey attending an event contact the fundraising office.

Maldon Fundraising Committee is chaired by Alex Daniel. Events are many and varied and include barge trips, auction of promises, dances and concerts.They also organise all of the street and store collections within the district and attends cheque presentations.

The Matron's Committee is headed by Janet Curmi, Farleigh Hospice's retired Matron. They organise high quality society events such as luncheons, carol and canapé evenings as well as garden concerts.

Springfield Support Group organise popular coffee mornings and a  number of Open Gardens and Tea Parties. Jean Plush or Valerie Miller are the main contacts for  this group.

Stamps - Mike Blizzard, the 'stamp man', collects old stamps which he soaks, trims and makes into collectable packs which are sold at the Farleigh Hospice shops.  Mike is based in the Witham area and is seeking volunteers to help him prepare the stamps for packaging. Writtle Village Committee organise an annual Autumn Fair in the village that usually raises in excess of £5,000 for Farleigh Hospice.  The Committee is always looking for helpers and contributers. 

As well as the above, Farleigh Hospice has many individuals who organise annual events.  These events include seasonal Christmas concerts, a Santa Sleigh collection with elves and music, a choral concert, art shows, open gardens, variety concerts, quiz nights and many many more.  It is events like these and those listed in the "What's On" section that help Farleigh Hospice to continue to provide the exceptional level of care that their patients need and deserve.
