Child Bereavement Counselling

The diagnosis of a life limiting illness of a significant other can have a huge impact on children and families.  Children may not understand what is happening and parents may find it difficult to talk to children about it.  Children can also feel very isolated, with none of their friends being in the same position.

At Farleigh Hospice we have a dedicated children and families counsellor.  Children have very different ways of expressing themselves and working through issues.  Work is done with them both individually and in groups, which help children to feel less alone.  Work also takes place with the parents to help them communicate with their children.

We have a children and families room at the hospice where this work can take place and where children can play when visiting relatives in the hospice.

'I think it made me feel a different way about my mum dying, it made it more positive, I'd recommend it to other children as it makes you feel like you're not the only one.' - Jessica aged 11.
