Social workers work with patients and relatives supporting them emotionally through what can be a very difficult time. They work with the whole family addressing any concerns and issues there may be and offering practical, emotional and social support where this is required.
Child and family support
We have a children and families worker who works with families who have been affected by a life limiting illness. Children often have very different needs and different ways of understanding issues such as illness in the family. Working with the whole family aims to create an understanding of what is happening and an acceptance of it.
The hospice has a special children and families room for children to play in and work through difficult emotional issues.
The Yo Yo Project is an ongoing project to support children, young people and their families who have experienced the death of someone close to them. For more information on the Yo Yo Project, please click here.
On going support
Support for the family is continued beyond the death of a patient. We have a specialist bereavement team who keep in touch with families and help them through this difficult time in their lives. Support can be either by phone, in one to one sessions or in group sessions, depending upon the individual's needs.
