The current artist is Andrea Farmer.

Andrea Farmer is a contemporary fine artist from Chelmsford, Essex.
Land art is Andrea's passion. Many of her paintings are based on Essex coastal and rural scenes. These works are inspired by her love of  landscape, nature and travel - themes that recur throughout her work.

Andrea favours a vivid use of colour using oil, ink and mixed media.

Ethereal and Coastal Landscapes
The ethereal landscape paintings focus on the British rural and coastal landscape. In particular, the way that light across the land creates abstract patterns, reflections and movement causing changes to perceived colour vision. These paintings have a glowing, sometimes hazy effect with opulent colours and evocative forms that melt into one another, creating an ethereal atmosphere.

I paint under the “brush-name” of Javene and have been painting and drawing in most media almost all my life.

I’m a founder member of Maldon Art Club and am also a member of Chelmsford Art Society.

My first solo show of watercolour paintings was in 1981 at Trinity Gallery in Colchester, when I enjoyed great success, selling more than 75% of the pictures on display, and receiving a glowing review in the local press!

In 1985, one of my paintings was accepted at the Open Exhibition of the Royal Watercolour Society and displayed at the Bankside Gallery in London.
In 1992, I was commissioned by Witham Town Council to paint a picture of Whetmead, the local nature reserve, and subsequently the painting was on display for many years in the District Council Office in Witham. (Sadly when the office was moved, the painting disappeared.)

I have had many solo exhibitions of my paintings at various galleries and venues in Essex, several being those in various Essex libraries, as well as in Ingatestone Bookshop and gallery, Blake End Gallery and Galeria in Maldon. I’m also regular exhibitor at the many local art shows that take place in mid-Essex throughout the year, usually making sales and obtaining commissions.
Last Christmas, one of my paintings (a botanical work), was used as the prize for Maldon Art Club raffle, during our exhibition at the Victorian Evening and it helped to raise a great deal of money.
Over the years I have studied art under the tutelage of several well-known local artists, including Charles Tait (d.1995), John Doubleday, Vasant, Janet Reid, Alison Burchert, Ashley Bryant and Sebastian Chew.

My favourite medium is water-colour, though I also use pastels, acrylics and coloured pencil. My favourite subjects are rural landscapes especially local views and botanical studies, I have completed many commissions during my career, particularly pet portraits - horses and dogs in particular- also houses, churches and gardens.
