Jeffrey Slater

Born 21st March 1947, married with four children and five grandchildren.
Interests include woodworking, cooking, reading, cycling and being a grandparent.
Jeff started work in 1965 in the Pathology department of Ashington Hospital, Northumberland and moved to Chelmsford in 1974 to work at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and then, in 1977, began work at St John’s Hospital. Jeff retired in September 2008 as a Consultant Biochemist at Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust.
Jeff’s professional interests were Endocrinology and the appropriate use of screening (for disease) and he also greatly enjoyed teaching and training and still lectures occasionally at Essex University. He is an assessor for the accreditation system of Hospital laboratories.
Jeff’s professional qualifications include diplomas in Medical Technology and Clinical Biochemistry, an MSc in Biochemistry and he is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.
