About Farleigh Hospice

At Farleigh Hospice we care for people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.  At a time when it can feel that nothing may be the same again we are there to help.  We recognise that our patients not only experience physical symptoms, but also have social, emotional and spiritual needs.  We are here for the patient and also their families and friends.

Care can take place in the home through our team of Specialist Home Care Nurses who assess each individual case, co-ordinate care with GPs and the health service, and ensure support is available from an early stage.  Our occupational therapist also provides support for patients at home by enabling them to remain independent and at home, which is where the majority of them want to be.

Care also takes the form of outpatient visits, where patients can take advantage of treatments, check ups, complementary therapies as well as services such as chiropody and hairdressing in a warm and friendly, non-hospital like setting.

Care is also offered through our three day care centres.  One of the more distressing symptoms that patients can experience is isolation.  Day care gives patients a regular opportunity for a social occasion where they can meet people with similar problems in a supportive and friendly environment.  Here they also have access to a huge range of other services.  These services include medical check ups, physiotherapy, complementary therapies, counselling and spiritual care for all denominations or indeed for those of no religious beliefs.  At the same time these days provide carers, who are often relatives, with vital respite.

Care is offered through our in-patient unit for patients with more complex symptoms who will benefit from our specialist 24 hour care.  A stay in the in-patient unit will also provide carers with the opportunity of a longer respite period.  A small number of patients who choose to die in the hospice will be able to in the peaceful surroundings of the hospice, surrounded by their families.

On-going bereavement care is offered to relatives through our social work team.  They start to work with patients and their families from early on in the diagnosis and follow this through to post bereavement support.  Our social work team also works with children who can have very different needs when they are affected by the death of a loved one.

Everything we do is designed to enrich the lives of our patients and those close to them.
